Celebrating Pride Month

Secret Garden wedding

Sending much love to all my friends and the many families celebrating Pride this month. As a LGBTQ friendly photographer it has been awesome to witness so many beautiful weddings celebrating love, family and unity.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising. Among the many leaders of the riots was black, trans, bisexual woman, Marsha P. Johnson, leading the movement to continue over six days with protests and clashes.  Protestors demanded the establishment of places where LGBTQ+ people could go and be open about their sexual orientation without fear of arrest. This year marks the 50th anniversary of annual LGBTQ+ Pride traditions. The first Pride march in New York City was held in June 1970 on the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.

Check out the Library of Congress & National Today for a little more information about the origins and history of Pride month in the U.S.
